Strategic Alliance/Tax

Kevin Carpenter

BCom LLB MBA H Dip Tax Law H Dip Company Law | Master Tax Practitioner (SA)

Kevin founded Carpenter Management Services in 1992, after having gained expertise in tax law and company law. He later developed expertise in finance after having completed his MBA at Wits.

Kevin spent four years as a senior tax manager with EY (then Ernst & Young) in its tax department where he consulted  on all aspects of tax covering corporate taxation, individual tax planning, estate duty planning, international tax, VAT, tax disputes with SARS etc. He later became involved in the commercial, legal, tax and finance aspects of local and international corporate transactions and corporate restructures and has developed an expertise in providing corporate valuations.

Kevin’s focus is on meeting the demands of the entrepreneurial sector and to provide practical advice and solutions to a sector that remains largely ignored by the larger firms, an approach shared with the founders of Harty Rushmere. Kevin has developed an extensive list of contacts over the years and has gained an in-depth knowledge and practical awareness of the demands of clients in the entrepreneurial sector, which extends beyond the law. Kevin has, notwithstanding this focus, consulted to several multinational clients, international clients and JSE listed companies. He has also developed a strong reputation with the smaller auditing and other professional firms that do not have the in-house expertise that Kevin provides. During this time, he has been and continues to be involved in commercial and corporate law and tax matters and mergers, acquisitions and takeovers.

Apart from transactional work, Kevin’s work involves a broad spectrum of consulting, advising and drafting, ranging from complex corporate and tax structures to regulatory and related commercial, tax and legal issues.

Kevin has been working with Harty Rushmere for several years and due to their common interests, philosophy and missions, the natural progression was to form a strategic alliance.
