Frikkie Marais

Frikkie Marais is an experienced legal expert and advocate with a distinguished track record of advising, educating, and supporting healthcare and other businesses in achieving and maintaining legal compliance.

He holds a B.Iuris from the University of the Free State and began his career in the Department of Justice, where he served as a prosecutor, magistrate, and state legal advisor—gaining extensive expertise in legal compliance and regulatory matters. While employed by the Department, he completed his LL.B. degree on a part-time basis at the University of Pretoria.

Frikkie was admitted and enrolled as an advocate of the Supreme Court of South Africa on 21 October 1993 in the Free State Provincial Division. In 1994, he established his own compliance consultancy, specialising in the healthcare sector as a dedicated legal compliance advisor.

Since 2023, his business has focused particularly on POPIA (Protection of Personal Information Act), PAIA (Promotion of Access to Information Act), the Cybercrimes Act (dealing with cybercrimes and data security) and healthcare legislation, alongside delivering targeted POPIA staff awareness training.

Through his speaking engagements and training programmes, Frikkie has travelled across South Africa, sharing practical insights on compliance frameworks. He is proud to call Strand in the Western Cape his home.

Outside of work, Frikkie enjoys spending time with his family, staying active at the gym, and keeping abreast of the latest developments in the legal field.
