Rizanné Du Preez
BA (Hons) LLB
Rizanné applies her extensive commercial and IT experience to the firm’s portfolio of commercial clients.
She completed her BA in Communication Studies at North West University in 2005, focusing on corporate communication, which has enabled her to understand the structures and processes involved in corporate and business environments. She proceeded in obtaining her BA (Hons) degree in 2006.
After completing her internship, Rizanné decided to shift her focus to legal studies and enrolled for a four year LLB, which she obtained three years later. During this condensed study period she was awarded membership to the Golden Key International Honour Society, as well as receiving the NWU Faculty of Law’s top achievement award for submitting the best final year dissertation in 2009.
Rizanné started her legal career at a litigation firm in Pretoria, where she developed a keen interest in commercial law, which she decided to explore further by joining Harty Rushmere in 2012. Since joining the firm, she has been exposed to a variety of commercial transactions, and has gained extensive experience in drafting and negotiating agreements relating to company set-ups and restructures, large commercial leases and various information technology related agreements (focusing on IT services and including reselling, licence, distribution and cloud based arrangements). Representing both big users of IT systems and services, and the providers thereof (ranging from start-ups to well-established companies, both locally and internationally) in a wide range of industries, benefits her greatly in taking a pragmatic approach to negotiate terms which make commercial sense, while limiting legal risks. Her focus on getting to know and understand clients’ business and operational structures, is well appreciated and benefits her greatly in identifying and addressing key issues for the clients she represents.
